Grade level teams facilitate the CSR experience for students in Middle School. Each grade level engages in four CSR Days with partner organizations during the school year. These engagements include educational awareness of the social issue, advocacy, fund-raising and specific action-oriented activities with community organizations. Each grade is focused on ASB's core values that relate best to their theme. The year ends with a CSR celebration. Check out the videos for CSR Day 1 and Day 2 2015-16.
Sixth grade works on the issue of animal welfare. Their core values are:
1. We are the trustees of our environment
2. People are responsible for the choices they make.
This year, they visited WSD and BNAC to better understand how to take care of stray animals and animal habitats. Students also made dog toys and painted a wall at WSD.
Seventh Grade
Their core values are:
7th grade students were divided into three groups. One group is working on creating criteria for a "Green School Award." A second group is working with Reality Tours to better understand the needs of workers in Dharavi. The third group is using Design Thinking to implement solutions for daily challenges faced by students living in SGNP. They are working with an NGO called Young Innovators' Foundation.
"Last CSR day we all together learned a lot of things, from the obvious, saving water, to all the processes to purify water. One of the big things that everyone learned was to listen very closely or you miss minor details that help you a lot. Always ask questions about things you don’t understand because then you don’t understand what the guide is explaining. One of the most important things we learned was the four steps water goes through to get purified; pre-chlorination, flocculation, sedimentation, chlorination. Water is delivered to 26 different places. SAVE WATER!!!" - MS Student
Eighth grade students work on their Global Citizenship Project through CSR. They work with one of eight NGO partners across various sectors- mental health, education, child rights, media and cancer. Our students work with their chosen partner organizations for one year- planning, implementing and reflecting on citizenship projects that will benefit these organizations. Curricular connections to the Global Citizenship Project are also made in their social studies class.
Eighth grade CSR connections are made directly to the mission of our school:
We inspire all of our students to continuous inquiry, empowering them with the skills, courage, optimism, and integrity to pursue their dreams and enhance the lives of others.
