Every grade in ES works with an NGO partner for the entire year. Our students build meaningful relationships with their partner, visit partner sites, invite partners to our campus and participate in self-initiated action projects that connect to PYP units of inquiry and our core values.
Save The Children India is an organisation that works towards the empowerment of underprivileged women and children through its health, vocational training and education programs. Pre K works specifically with children with auditory challenges.Visits are organised for STCI children to have experiential and interactive guided play sessions. Pre K students also visit STCI for an activity session.
The Kindergarten class is partnered with Save the Children India (STCI). The Kindergarten class works with the STCI school for the hearing-impaired. Our children have regular 'play dates' with students from STCI in which they do art activities, play educational games, learn new games on the iPad, read story books, and interact on the playground together. These activities are aligned to their Unit of Inquiry "Living thing use their senses to explore the world".
The first grade are partnered with Save The Children India (STCI), an organization that provides education to underprivileged children. Students visit each others' schools, read together, play games, and do art and music activities. As part of the Unit Of Inquiry,"Humans can use sound to make language and communicate, Grade 1 students visited Save The Children India on February 14th to learn the sign language. The students observed that the STCI kids had hearing difficulties and they desired to take action and help them join the hearing world by donating a pair of earring aids.
The second grade works with One International, a school that teaches literacy skills to less-privileged children. High School CSR clubs also share their experiences with Grade 2.
Our students also run drives to collect school supplies and toiletries for their students at One! International.
Grade 2 students and teachers visited One International. This visit enriched our unit of Inquiry relating to Very Influential People (Where we are in place and time). The students had an opportunity to further develop their relationships with their NGO buddies while they also contemplate ideas for how they can impact these students' lives.
As part of Grade 3 current unit of inquiry, ‘How we organize ourselves’.The NGO they are associated with St.Catherine's home. Students from underprivileged backgrounds receive formal education at this NGO.
Students are sharing Art work and resources to support their Art program.
Fourth grade works with CHILDReach, a school for children with learning challenges. They have been preparing and sharing resources for slow learners to support our school theme of the year Courage and Compassion.
The students in grade 5 work on many service projects throughout the year that relate to their unit on economic activity. They are partnered with the ACORN Foundation - Dharavi Project whose mission is two-fold: to organise and improve the welfare of Mumbai's waste collectors and to protect the environment through sustainable waste management.
Grade 5 students visited various recycling industries in Dharavi. They organised a business fair to raise funds to buy musical instruments for the Dharavi Rocks Band.
Each family of elementary school packs a box of specified utility items which are gifted to STCI at the annual Christmas Tree Lighting event at the Grand Hyatt.
A book donation drive was organised in the elementary school for St. Catherine 's home. A Readathon was also initiated to raise funds for Sadhana Village.
Specific needs of NGO's were supported by students during various Studio Sessions. "Keep one Give one" was the goal. Differentiated learning and reading was supported by making story books, sensory boards and stuff toys.
Students from STCI will be invited to make utility products like bags, umbrellas, shoes, caps etc during the summer intersession.
